YesYesYes is live: a habit tracker I'll actually use
YesYesYes is live, a deliberately simple habit tracker for showing up every day.
I wanted to get healthier: stay away from vaping, eat healthier, drink less and be more active. So I started a Google Sheet.
It was flexible. I could track whatever I wanted, arrange the columns, change the colours. It was also cumbersome and ugly, and I had no joy filling it out. After doing the thing, I still had to convince myself to open the sheet and record it.
The other habit trackers I tried went too far in the other direction. They were so sophisticated that I felt I was managing more of the app than my habits. I wanted to keep a few promises to myself, and somehow that had become another system to maintain.
Sticking to a habit is already hard on a busy day. The plan you make when you’re motivated still has to work when you’re tired, distracted or just not in the mood. If recording it feels like more work, that’s another reason to put it off. And once you stop recording, it’s easy to lose sight of how things have actually been going.
That’s where the idea for YesYesYes came from. A daily yes-or-no check-in, with a visual history so I can see the days I showed up and the ones I missed. Answer the question and move on.
The best habit tracker app is the one you’ll actually use.
For me, that means keeping the tracking small enough that I don’t dread it. A missed day should be visible, but it shouldn’t make the next check-in feel pointless. There is still today, and another chance to say yes.
You can read more on the project page, or open YesYesYes and try it for yourself.
